Welcome to the inaugural edition of Crowd Content\u2019s Writer Spotlight. Each month, we\u2019ll mercilessly interrogate one of our freelancers until we uncover all the sordid details on what makes them a successful member of our team. You\u2019ll discover how they came to find Crowd Content, what their favorite projects are, where they like to work \u2014 and even scandalous details on their favorite meals and movies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our first spotlight shines brightly on none other than Lee Soren \u2014 aka Lisa in the real world. After her husband found our platform on a list of freelance writer sites in September of 2018, Lisa joined and submitted her first work, quietly knocking out Darice and facility blurb orders. But it didn\u2019t take long for project managers to recognize the clean, descriptive writing of a seasoned pro. Lisa was in demand and started producing high-quality work for some of our most challenging four-star clients. Today, Lisa is just short of completing her 2,000th order on the platform. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lisa hails from the south shore of Long Island but now calls Florida\u2019s Treasure Coast home, where she enjoys spending time at the beach and photographing dogs playing in the sand and swimming in the ocean. She\u2019s had various professional jobs, including freelance transcriptionist, corporate trainer, and website librarian for an outsourcing organization. She says she started writing \u201cpretty much as soon as I could string words together on a page\u201d and was published in 2016 by Albert Whitman & Company (Resurrecting Sunshine – young adult science fiction). She\u2019s also had numerous short stories published in notable publications, including Family Circle and The Poughkeepsie Journal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While she says she\u2019s a fiction writer at heart, she has a \u201csoft spot for product descriptions,\u201d which she had never written before joining Crowd Content. Lisa says her favorite project involves writing blog posts on travel nursing and other health topics for one of our health care clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But let\u2019s get to the nitty-gritty \u2014 the real news. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
What does Lisa think of Crowd Content; what can we do better, and what advice does she have for new writers?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What do you think sets Crowd Content apart from other content platforms?: <\/strong>\u201cI haven\u2019t done much work for other content platforms, but I think it\u2019s probably the people. I love how Crowd Content promotes teamwork, and I always appreciate the level of communication between writers, editors, and project managers. Crowd Content has also been a very respectful, appreciative platform, something that isn\u2019t easy to find when you\u2019re working remotely.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you could change one thing about our platform, what would it be?: <\/strong>\u201cI would love to be able to see what teams I\u2019m actually on and which ones are actually active.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n Do you have any advice for new writers?: <\/strong>\u201cYes! Don\u2019t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. That\u2019s where the most growth happens. It\u2019s also so important to be open to feedback, whether it\u2019s from an editor or \u2014 for off-platform writing \u2014 an agent or a critique partner. Not all feedback will resonate with you, but you\u2019ll be surprised how much you can learn from others in the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n But the hard-hitting questions didn\u2019t end there\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Who is your favorite author? What\u2019s your favorite book?:<\/strong> \u201cI have a few. I\u2019m a big fan of Stephen King. I also love pretty much anything by Margaret Atwood or Alice Hoffman. Asking an avid reader to pick one favorite book is a cruel form of torture, so I\u2019ll give you two: Pet Sematary by Stephen King and Rings of Ice by Piers Anthony.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n What\u2019s your favorite restaurant or meal?:<\/strong> \u201cDefinitely Italian food. I\u2019m a native New Yorker so of course I\u2019m a big fan of pizza.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n What\u2019s your favorite TV show or movie?:<\/strong> \u201cI am a dedicated fan of The X-Files. My favorite movie is probably Poltergeist (the original version) or Jaws 1 or 2.\u201d (Editor\u2019s note: Thanks for clarifying that it\u2019s the original version of Poltergeist because the remake was absolutely terrible.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n On behalf of all of us at Crowd Content, we want to extend a big thank you to Lisa for taking the time to talk with us and for the outstanding work she\u2019s submitted for our clients.
