Search engine optimization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are in any way involved in internet marketing, you have probably heard all of these terms, and you&#8217;ve maybe&nbsp;used some of these terms almost interchangeably.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are new to internet marketing, that isn&#8217;t really a problem, since basic internet marketing generally blends the concepts. However, once you reach a certain point, you need a stronger understanding of the various concepts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For today, let&#8217;s talk about the difference between content marketing and community marketing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Content marketing<\/strong> is a marketing strategy that involves the creation and sharing of online media in order to acquire and maintain customers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Community marketing<\/strong> is a marketing strategy that involves interacting with your customer community in ways that <a href=\"\/blog\/2015\/12\/11\/now-earn-coins-with-crowd-content-community-beta\/\">encourage the community to naturally market your brand.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>While both strategies may involve the creation of online media, the purpose of the content marketing&nbsp;is to build customer loyalty, while the purpose of the community marketing&nbsp;is to both reward customer loyalty and reap the rewards of customer loyalty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to note that both types of marketing differ from more direct advertising in that neither is designed to directly create sales (though indirect sales are usually expected).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Examining the Pros and Cons<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"288\" src=\"https:\/\/www.crowdcontent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Capture-620x288.png\" alt=\"Capture\" class=\"wp-image-13155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.crowdcontent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Capture-620x288.png 620w, https:\/\/www.crowdcontent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Capture-320x149.png 320w, https:\/\/www.crowdcontent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Capture.png 989w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The pros and cons of the two styles of marketing primarily come down to one big difference: content marketing focuses primarily on building a costumer base while community marketing focuses primarily on interacting with that base.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Because the user base already exists, a community marketing doesn&#8217;t necessarily need to rely on good SEO. Unfortunately, this benefit also has a negative side effect. When a person searches for content and chooses to interact with it, that person has usually been fully engaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When content is directed at a person, as per community marketing, <a href=\"\/blog\/2015\/10\/02\/secrets-to-engaging-content-exposed-at-cmworld-2015\/\">engagement<\/a> is much less likely. Effectively, <strong>a brand needs to work harder to maintain brand engagement through community marketing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judging engagement is also different for content marketing and community marketing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For content marketing, there are a number of criteria that can indicate successful engagement<\/strong>, including time spent browsing a web page, number of pages a person visits, whether a person chooses to join the brand community in some way (Facebook page, forums, etc.), or simply if the person makes a purchase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"438\" src=\"https:\/\/www.crowdcontent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/human-810030_1920-620x438.jpg\" alt=\"Community marketing, content marketing\" class=\"wp-image-11523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.crowdcontent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/human-810030_1920-620x438.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.crowdcontent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/human-810030_1920-320x226.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.crowdcontent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/human-810030_1920-1170x827.jpg 1170w, https:\/\/www.crowdcontent.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/human-810030_1920.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For community marketing, interaction is the main way to judge engagement<\/strong>, but that can be difficult to judge. A simple post count (for comments or forum posts) doesn&#8217;t always paint the full picture and lurkers (people who never or rarely post) are even harder to judge. Judging community marketing success often requires an occasional direct survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for how you can get those inactive readers to actually post something, that is a thought for another day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Customers Equal Sales<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The simple truth is that <strong>more customers equals more sales<\/strong>. Both content marketing and community marketing understand this truth, focusing, respectively, on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/steve-olenski\/6-ways-to-acquire-custome_b_5941314.html\">creating customers<\/a> and interacting with customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both forms of internet marketing are long-term strategies that work best when combined with short term strategies like direct advertising.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Content marketing.
