Here are some common contractions:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Can\u2019t (Cann<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">o<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">t)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Could\u2019ve (Could <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ha<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ve)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Don\u2019t (Do n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">o<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">t)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We\u2019re (We <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">re)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201860s (1960s)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The commonly confused contractions it\u2019s, they\u2019re, and you\u2019re are covered in <\/span><a title=\"It\u2019s, They\u2019re, You\u2019re\" href=\"https:\/\/www.crowdcontent.com\/resources\/writer\/university\/punctuation\/its-theyre-youre\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">this lesson<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Pluralization<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Before you go any farther, I want to make something clear: using apostrophes to pluralize is the exception, not the rule. <\/span><b>The only times you can use an apostrophe when pluralizing are with letters and numbers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (and even in these cases, you don\u2019t have to use an apostrophe). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If it\u2019s not a letter or number, just add -s.
