Proofreading gets more nitpicky, looking at spelling, grammar, and punctuation mistakes, as well as typos. To make sure that you don\u2019t introduce any new errors, always proofread after editing.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Typos and Spelling<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Always use a spell checker while writing, but don\u2019t rely on it. Correct any spelling mistakes that your spell checker finds, and then read your post backwards or out loud to spot any more mistakes. Spell checkers improve constantly, but they aren\u2019t perfect, especially with homophones. Be particularly careful that you\u2019ve spelled <\/span><a title=\"Commonly Confused Words\" href=\"https:\/\/www.crowdcontent.com\/resources\/writer\/university\/spelling\/commonly-confused-words\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">commonly confused words<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> correctly.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Grammar and Punctuation<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Grammar checkers aren\u2019t as sophisticated as spell checkers yet; they miss many mistakes and \u00a0catch \u201cmistakes\u201d that aren\u2019t real. Use them, but with caution! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Taking the Crowd Content University grammar<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0and punctuation<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0lessons is your best bet for spotting grammar and punctuation mistakes. Pay special attention to dangling modifiers, subject-verb agreement, subject-pronoun agreement, and run-on sentences.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Consistency<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Consistency checkers don\u2019t exist yet, so you\u2019re on your own for this one. Make sure that you stick to consistent spelling and punctuation choices throughout your copy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In this lesson, I wrote \u201cspell checker\u201d, so I want to make sure that I don\u2019t have \u201cspellchecker\u201d as well.
